Jalen Warley recorded a season-best 22 points and a career-high 14 rebounds to help No. 7 Gonzaga defeat host San Diego for the 20th consecutive time, 99-93 in West Coast Conference play on Tuesday night.
Tyon Grant-Foster scored 18 points, Braden Huff had 14 points and eight rebounds and Mario Saint-Supery also scored 14 points for the Bulldogs (14-1, 2-0 WCC), who won their seventh straight game. Gonzaga's Graham Ike added 11 points and nine rebounds.
Ty-Laur Johnson scored 21 points, Juanse Gorosito added 16 points and D'Arrae Goodwin tallied 15 for the Toreros (6-8, 1-1). San Diego's Adrian McIntyre had 12 points, seven rebounds and seven assists.
The Toreros are now 1-31 against Gonzaga since recording a 69-62 upset over the Zags in the 2008 West Coast Conference tournament title game. That contest resulted in San Diego making its most recent appearance in the NCAA Tournament.
No. 12 North Carolina 79, Florida State 66
Freshman forward Caleb Wilson racked up 22 points and a career-high 16 rebounds as the Tar Heels withstood sketchy offensive stretches to defeat the Seminoles in the Atlantic Coast Conference opener for both teams in Chapel Hill, N.C.
Seth Trimble contributed 20 points while Kyan Evans scored 15 points for North Carolina (13-1, 1-0). Veesaar also pulled in 12 rebounds while Wilson distributed a career-high-tying six assists.
Chauncey Wiggins posted 16 points and reserve Kobe MaGee had 12 points for Florida State (7-7, 0-1), which had a two-game winning streak end. The Seminoles took 40 of their 66 shots from 3-point range but made just 12.
No. 13 Nebraska 86, New Hampshire 55
Pryce Sandfort scored 19 points as the Cornhuskers extended their school-record win streak to 17 games with a nonconference win over the Wildcats in Lincoln, Neb.
Nebraska (13-0) continued the best start in school history despite shooting 5 of 23 (21.7%) from 3-point range. The Cornhuskers got 15 points from Braden Frager and 14 from Berke Buyuktuncel.
Jack Graham put up 17 points and R.J. Kennedy had 11 for New Hampshire (4-9). The Wildcats hit 4 of 26 (15.4%) from the floor in the second half, including 0 of 15 from 3-point range after making 8 of 17 triple attempts in the first half.
No. 16 Louisville 90, Cal 70
Ryan Conwell scored 26 points for the Cardinals, who won their Atlantic Coast Conference opener for the first time in four seasons by manhandling the Golden Bears in Berkeley, Calif.
Louisville (11-2, 1-0 ACC) once again was without Mikel Brown Jr., who missed his third straight game with a back injury. The Cardinals, though, did not miss the freshman star as Adrian Wooley, Brown's substitute, posted a season-high 21 points.
Chris Bell finished with 20 points and Justin Pippen added 17, but Cal (12-2, 0-1) saw its nine-game winning streak end.
No. 19 Tennessee 105, South Carolina State 54
Ja'Kobi Gillespie amassed 21 points and eight assists as the Volunteers rounded out their nonconference schedule by hammering the Bulldogs in Knoxville, Tenn.
Nate Ament totaled 16 points and seven rebounds while Amari Evans had 14 points and five boards as Volunteers (10-3) won their third straight game. Tennessee reached the century mark for the first time this season.
Jayden Johnson, the MEAC's Preseason Player of the Year, led South Carolina State (1-14) with 25 points.
