Tounde Yessoufou had 18 points and seven rebounds and Cameron Carr added 17 points and six rebounds to lead Baylor to a 91-81 victory over San Diego State on Wednesday in a Players Era men's tournament consolation game in Las Vegas.
Five of the seven Baylor players who played in the game scored in double figures. Obi Agbim tossed in 16, Isaac Williams scored 13 and Dan Skillings finished with 11. Skillings also had eight rebounds and five assists for the Bears (5-1).
Miles Byrd led San Diego State (3-3) with 13 points. The Aztecs received 12 points from both Elzie Harrington and Reese Dixon-Waters. San Diego State made 11 of its 26 3-point attempts in the loss.
Baylor went 2-1 in its three tournament games. San Diego State finished the tournament with a 1-2 record.
The first half featured 10 lead changes. San Diego State had a 10-5 advantage early, but Baylor went on a 9-0 spurt to go up 14-10. The Bears tied the game, 26-26, on a Skilings 3-pointer with 6:00 remaining in the half and had a 40-36 halftime lead.
It was a good shooting half for both teams. Baylor made 14 of its 26 field goal attempts (53.8%), and San Diego State was 12 of 24 from the field.
Baylor led 50-44, but a BJ Davis basket capped an 8-0 run that put San Diego State in front 52-50 with 13:04 remaining. The Bears responded with a 12-0 run over a three-minute span and had a 65-54 lead following a Williams layup with 9:06 to play.
A Harrington free throw with 7:55 to play ended a 4:35 scoreless stretch for the Aztecs, but Baylor soon had its largest lead, 80-62, after a Carr layup with 2:41 on the clock. San Diego State failed to get closer than eight points the rest of the way.
