The Chicago White Sox placed outfielder Mike Tauchman on the 10-day injured list due to a meniscus tear in his right knee and rookie right-hander Wikelman Gonzalez on the 15-day IL because of a right elbow impingement, effectively ending their seasons on Wednesday.
The moves, which are retroactive to this past Saturday, come with the White Sox's campaign ending at the conclusion of the regular season on Sunday.
Chicago also recalled right-hander Jonathan Cannon from Triple-A Charlotte and claimed outfielder Derek Hill off waivers from the Miami Marlins.
Tauchman, 34, last played Saturday in a 7-3 home loss to the San Diego Padres. He batted .263 with nine home runs and 40 RBIs across 93 games in his first season with the White Sox.
He is a career .246 hitter with 41 homers and 195 RBIs in 567 games for the Colorado Rockies (2017-18), New York Yankees (2019-21), San Francisco Giants (2021), Chicago Cubs (2023-24) and White Sox. The Rockies selected him in the 10th round of the 2013 MLB Draft out of Bradley University.
Gonzalez, 23, last pitched Saturday, allowing one run on two hits with one strikeout in one inning against the Padres. He was 1-0 with a 2.66 ERA, 12 walks and 25 strikeouts in 20 1/3 innings over 16 relief appearances since making his major league debut in June.
Hill, 29, was designated for assignment by the Marlins on Monday after batting .213 (27-for-127) with three homers and 10 RBIs in 53 games.
A first-round pick (23rd overall) by Detroit in the 2014 draft, Hill is a career .228 hitter with 14 homers and 53 RBIs in 214 games for the Tigers (2020-22), Washington Nationals (2023), Texas Rangers (2024), San Francisco Giants (2024) and Marlins (2024-25).
Cannon, 25, is 4-9 with a 5.67 ERA, 37 walks and 78 strikeouts in 98 1/3 innings over 20 games (17 starts) for Chicago this season. A third-round pick by the White Sox in 2022 out of Georgia, Cannon is a career 9-19 with a 5.01 ERA, 77 walks and 169 strikeouts in 222 2/3 innings over 43 games (38 starts) since 2024.
