The Baltimore Orioles used the long ball early and then held on to beat the San Diego Padres 7-5 Wednesday and complete a three-game road sweep.
The Orioles (64-76) led 7-0 after the third as they got back-to-back-to-back home runs by Colton Cowser, Coby Mayo and Alex Jackson, all off Nestor Cortes (2-4). It was the second time this season Baltimore hit three homers in a row.
Jackson Holliday also went deep off Cortes to start the game for his 16th homer and third leadoff shot of the season.
Cade Povich (3-7) benefited from the offensive outburst to notch his first victory since June 15 and his first as a starter since April 24. In five-plus innings, the lefty gave up four runs on seven hits and three walks while striking out three.
Manny Machado hit a two-run homer off Povich in the sixth. His 22nd homer of the season for the Padres (76-64) was also the fourth in 13 career games against his former team.
Fernando Tatis Jr. led off the San Diego seventh with a homer off Keegan Akin.
Baltimore sent 11 batters to the plate in a six-run third. Cowser hit a three-run homer to right center with one out before Mayo and Jackson followed with solo shots, ending Cortes' day.
The Padres starter lasted just 2 1/3 innings with all six runs allowed earned. The Orioles got seven hits and three walks off Cortes, who struck out a pair.
Povich tired in the sixth as the first five Padres reached on him. Jake Cronenworth greeted Akin with an infield RBI single, making it 7-3. However, Jose Iglesias grounded into a double play that made it 7-4 before Akin got Elias Diaz swinging to end the inning.
The Padres bullpen did not allow a hit after the third, with left fielder and former Oriole Ramon Laureano robbing Cowser of another home run in the ninth.
Padres reliever Mason Miller threw the fourth immaculate inning of the season in the eighth, striking out Jeremiah Jackson, Ryan Mountcastle and Emmanuel Rivera on nine pitches.
Yennier Cano retired the Padres in order in the ninth for his second save of the season.
