"STILL ON THE ROAD TO FREEDOM" Subtitle "A Genuine Slice of American History" by Charles Wright.
This new "re-release" is hitting media outlets and book platforms as readers gear up to hear from one of the nation's greatest legendary R&B singers, Charles Wright who has captured the ears and eyes of the world as he shares even more intimate details of his life of struggle in the deep south. The twists and turns of these experiences enabled him to become one the greatest R&B singers and guitarist of all time.
Charles Wright is best known as the leader of the '70s soul group, The Watts 103rd Street Rhythm Band and the composer of the resourcefully recycled R&B smash "Express Yourself." His talent has embraced many musical platforms to name a few; Warner Brothers and ABC Dunhill. His work has been used to highlight the lives of some of the greatest celebrities in the world; to name a few - Little Richard to Hollywood's James McEachin A note to his credits, Charles has produced a documentary entitled "Brink Back the Harmony" that speaks to his passion of wanting to return music education to the school system.
Charles gives the reader a candid look into his early years in Clarksdale, Mississippi, a city that will always have a delible mark on his memory. In this re-release he reflects heavily on the trials and tribulations his family endured while growing up in a plantation town that prized itself on cotton fields with a cruel sharecropper and plantation landowner, Edward Miles who did not value the lifestyle and character of his dedicated workers. The treatment that was displayed by the plantation landowner weighed heavily on the family. Charles and his family endured beatings from his father that was a mark that had been taught by the plantation owner. Charles wants the reader to understand how abuse can affect the way a family is raised which is attributed to his dysfunctional lifestyle while living in Mississippi.
He brings you into the emotions that were shielding them as they found a way through his sister to relocate out of this horrific south to find habitation in Los Angeles, California. Their scars were there, but he somehow found music as an outlet to help diminish the memories of the abusive south and heal the pain. The rest is history. There he reached the level of success that is now celebrated.
This is a "must read."
