Fourth-ranked San Diego State, the lone remaining unbeaten team in Division I, rode a dominant first half and a balanced scoring attack to its 26th consecutive win Sunday, beating host Boise State 72-55 in Boise, Idaho.
San Diego State (26-0, 15-0 Mountain West Conference) came into the matchup having already clinched the outright regular-season conference title.
Guard Malachi Flynn scored a team-high 22 points for the Aztecs, who put five players in double figures. Flynn also grabbed six rebounds and dished out six assists. Yanni Wetzell scored 14 points and grabbed seven rebounds, Jordan Schakel scored 12 points, and Matt Mitchell added 11 points with seven rebounds. K.J. Feagin added 10 points.
Justinian Jessup, meanwhile, knocked down 5-of-10 3-pointers for the Broncos (17-10, 9-6) and matched Flynn with for game-high honors with 22 points.
No. 15 Villanova 76, Temple 56
Behind torrid 3-point shooting in the second half, the Wildcats claimed Philadelphia's Big 5 title with a victory over the Owls in a nonconference matchup.
The Wildcats (19-6) went unbeaten this season against Philadelphia rivals La Salle, Saint Joseph's, Penn and Temple (13-12). It is Villanova's 27th Big 5 title, matching Temple for the most.
Villanova made 13 of 21 shots from behind the arc in the second half. Collin Gillespie made 7 of 11 shots from 3-point range and finished with a game-high 29 points. He also had five assists.
No. 17 Oregon 80, Utah 62
Payton Pritchard scored 17 of his game-high 25 points in the first half, and the Ducks rolled to a win over the visiting Utes in Eugene, Ore.
Will Richardson added 18 points, six assists and six rebounds for the Ducks (20-6, 9-4 Pac-12). Oregon kept pace with No. 16 Colorado at the top of the Pac-12 standings, winning their second straight game after back-to-back losses.
Rylan Jones led the Utes (14-11, 5-8) with 18 points. Utah lost its fourth game in the past six.
No. 21 Iowa 58, Minnesota 55
Bakari Evelyn canned two tie-breaking free throws with 1:15 left and the Hawkeyes held the Golden Gophers scoreless for the final 5:25, rallying for a Big Ten win in Minneapolis.
The Hawkeyes (18-8, 9-6) trailed 55-47 after Minnesota's Payton Willis drilled a 3-pointer with 5:25 to play. But Iowa coach Fran McCaffery called a timeout and his Hawkeyes clamped down defensively from there, forcing five turnovers in six possessions. That included an errant pass with 40 seconds left by Golden Gophers point guard Marcus Carr that sailed to Minnesota coach Richard Pitino.
Minnesota could have tied the game with 3.8 seconds left, but center Daniel Oturu missed the front end of a one-and-one. Connor McCaffery rebounded, drew a foul and hit the second of a two-shot foul with 2.9 ticks on the clock. Carr's desperation 3-pointer from beyond midcourt didn't come close as the horn sounded.
